Arie van den Brand

was born in 1951. He is the son of a traditional small farmer. He studied at the agricultural university of Wageningen and he worked for many years at the folkhighschool in Bergen. He was the director of In Natura, an innovative cooperative of farmers and citizens for the production of nature, landscape, water and other new green services.The last years he was member of the Dutch parliament.Nowadays he is the president of Biologica, the dutch platform for organic agriculture. He is also the chair of the board of the Institute for Agriculture Trade Policy in Minneapolis since its beginning in 1986. He lives on a farm in a rural village, north of Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. He is a founder member of the Bruges Group and his President since 2004, succeding Bertrand Hervieu.
