Agricultural and Rural Convention

Despite the Commissioners good intentions to involve civil society as much as possible in the debate on the CAP, a number of NGO's felt that something was missing: a debate between the different stakeholders themselves. Also, they felt that is is necessary to develop and present a common message to the Commission and the other European institutions. Without it the Commissioner's consultation runs the risk of ending up in a multitude of different opinions, only showing the diversity in opinions. For this reason the Groupe de Bruges has joined up with Forum Synergies to create a platform for debate between stakeholders that aims at creating this common message under the title Agricultural and Rural Convention. Meanwhile a website has been established, arc2020.eu where people and organisations can express their support to the process, express their positions, take part in the debate, create or participate in regional and thematic discussions groups. Recently a first dragt position paper has been written. Everybody is welcome to give their reactions to the ARC's core team

Participation of the Groupe de Bruges at the 3rd China Europa Forum

Since 2005 the French Fondation Leopold Mayer pour le Progrès de l'Homme (FPH) is organising with its Chinese partners the China Europa Forum, a platform for NGO's, universities and citizens aimed at improving the mutual understanding between these two major players in the world. For this the Fondation China Europa Forum was set up.

The FPH has asked the Groupe de Bruges to be the European partner to organise one of the workshops, entitled 'What agricultural policies? What contribution of China and Europe in a global agricultural policy?' (workshop number T43C). The 3rd Forum will be held in China from 4 - 14 July 2010.

Groupe de Bruges

Independent think tank on European agriculture and rural development

Arie van den Brand
President of
Groupe de Bruges

"European agriculture is  questioned because it is no longer in sync with the current stakes: the consolidation of the European Union; the new expectations of society  concerning environment, land management, quality of food or animal welfare; the construction of a multipolar world in which food security for all would be asserted as a fundamental value".
